Bless Them: The 20 Times Paparazzi Caught Celebs Being Gloriously, Hilariously Human in 2024

There is a particular joy — a warm, slightly guilty joy — in watching someone who earns more in a day than most of us do in a decade struggle to carry their own Waitrose bags. Fame is a strange and glittering beast, but every so often the lens catches it with its trousers metaphorically down, and that, dear reader, is precisely what we live for here at Snap The Celebrity.

2024 was, by any measure, an absolute goldmine. Whether it was A-listers caught mid-sneeze outside celebrity-favourite haunts, Hollywood royalty fumbling with an umbrella in a light drizzle, or pop stars who clearly did not expect to be photographed doing the weekly shop in Tesco Express — the paparazzi delivered. Repeatedly. Magnificently.

So, in honour of every gloriously unglamorous moment that reminded us celebs are just people (very rich, very famous people, but still), here are the twenty snaps from 2024 that had us absolutely howling.

1. The Great Avocado Incident

Kicking things off with an absolute classic of the genre: a very well-known British actress — we'll let you guess — was snapped outside a north London farmers' market watching in apparent horror as a paper bag gave way and approximately six avocados made a bid for freedom across the pavement. The expression on her face? Pure, unfiltered tragedy. The avocados? Unbothered.

2. The Mid-Sneeze Red Carpet Warm-Up

One A-lister, freshly stepped off a transatlantic flight and clearly not quite ready for the waiting photographers outside their hotel, delivered what can only be described as the sneeze of the century. Full-body. Eyes scrunched. One hand raised as if to say please, not now. The camera, naturally, did not care.

3. The Coffee Cup Catastrophe

A beloved US pop star visiting London for a string of sold-out dates was caught attempting to juggle three iced coffees, a phone, a tote bag, and what appeared to be a small dog. One coffee did not survive. The dog was fine. The pavement outside Soho House, less so.

4. When the Revolving Door Won

We don't name names here without good reason, but there is footage — beautiful, eternal footage — of a major film actor being comprehensively defeated by a revolving door at a five-star hotel. Three full rotations before he escaped. Security watched on. We watched on. We will always watch on.

5. The Hat That Wasn't Ready

A certain chart-topping British musician stepped out in what was clearly meant to be a serve of a look — oversized coat, dark sunglasses, statement hat — only for a rogue gust of wind to send said hat tumbling directly into a puddle. The sunglasses stayed on. The dignity did not.

6. Gym Bag, No Gym

Multiple celebrities this year were photographed arriving at their trainers' studios, gym bags slung purposefully over their shoulders... only to emerge twelve minutes later, suspiciously un-sweaty, clutching a smoothie. We're not judging. We are absolutely judging.

7. The Supermarket Self-Checkout Stand-Off

Perhaps 2024's most relatable snap of the lot: a very recognisable face, clearly hoping to remain anonymous in a baseball cap, completely undone by the self-checkout machine at a South Kensington Sainsbury's. 'Unexpected item in bagging area.' Aren't we all, darling. Aren't we all.

8. The Dog Walk Disaster

Three leads, two dogs, one celebrity, zero control. A morning walk in Hyde Park turned into a full-scale wrestling match when both hounds decided, simultaneously, to go in completely opposite directions. The resulting spin was almost balletic. Almost.

9. The Umbrella That Inverted

Rain in London — groundbreaking stuff. What was groundbreaking was watching an internationally famous face battle a completely inside-out umbrella on Oxford Street while attempting to maintain their composure. They did not maintain their composure.

10. The 'I Didn't Know There Were Cameras' Strut

A fan-favourite moment: a pop star, clearly believing themselves unobserved, doing an absolutely tremendous little dance whilst waiting for their car. Full shimmy. Shoulder rolls. Entirely committed. Then the car window reflected the photographer and the face that followed was, genuinely, priceless.

11–20: An Honourable Mention Avalanche

Because we could genuinely do this all day, here's a rapid-fire round of the remaining highlights that made 2024 a vintage year for catching celebrities in their full, unedited humanity:

Why We Absolutely Love Every Second of This

Here's the thing about all of these moments — and we say this with nothing but genuine warmth — they're not embarrassing. They're brilliant. They're the moments that remind us that fame is a costume, and underneath it, everyone's fighting with revolving doors and supermarket self-checkouts and pigeons that simply will not move.

The paparazzi gets a complicated press (no pun intended), but when they capture this — the avocado avalanche, the inside-out umbrella, the dog walk chaos — they're doing something almost anthropological. Documenting that no amount of money, talent, or personal stylists can fully protect you from the fundamental absurdity of being alive.

And honestly? Long may it continue. Same time next year, everyone.
